Description
Summary:This image is a watercolor conceptual painting of an indoor swimming pool done by Brendon A. Bond sometime between 1940 and 1942. The bottom of the painting shows three colored views of the swimming pool, two of the walls of the room and a dais or stage recessed into the long wall. The view on the left shows the pool being used for competition with people up on the starting blocks, the view on the right shows the pool set up for casual swimming with people in the corner, and the center view shows the pool room decorated for a pageant or carnival with balloons, special lighting, people in the dais area and the balcony stands, and the building's roof open to the sky. There are notes underneath which describe how to prepare the pool room for such festivities. The top of the painting shows a longitudinal and transverse sectional view in pencil on the left. In the center is a floor plan for the pool building showing the rooms, walls, door, pool, dais, balcony and stairwells. On the right is a colored diagram with pencil notes on the lighting for the room. In the lower right corner, there is an artist's information block which reads: "Brendon A. Bond, Alabama Poly. Inst., Class-A- Problem III, A Swimming Pool." The painting is in fair condition with a few minor pieces missing from the edges and a stain in the lower right corner and is encapsulated.
