Description
Summary:This image is a watercolor conceptual painting of a museum for the fine arts done by Charles Francis Davis, Jr. during the 1930-31 academic year. The painting has been torn into two parts through the middle of the floor plan and this is the lower part. The upper half of this part of the painting shows a partial floor plan with its rooms, walls, corridors, doorways, windows, columns, decorative floor coverings, interior courtyards, and vestibule. The lower half of this part of the painting is divided into two parts. The lower left shows a corner view of the entire building with its interior courtyards, doorways, windows, columns, architectural moldings, porch, dome, and flat, cylindrical, and triangular roofs surrounded by trees and landscaping. The lower right shows a cross-section side view of the building in greater detail. In the lower right corner, there are an inscription which reads "First Medal," a red star, and an Alabama Polytechnic Institute School of Architecture stamp. Below the inscription is a partial label which reads: "Alabama Polytechnic Institute, thesis project, 1930-1931, Mr. Charles Francis Davis, Jr., 'A fine arts building.'" The painting is in poor condition with a large jagged piece missing from the top along in addition to the ragged top edge where the painting was torn and is encapsulated.
