This image is a watercolor conceptual painting of a Tudor-style hotel done by K.R. Giddens sometime between 1917 and 1942. The top third of the painting shows a back view of the hotel with its stone walls, upper walls with wooden beams, doors, windows, arches, towers, and sloped roofs. The hotel is surrounded by trees with hills in the background and the terraced grounds have steps and handrails which lead down to a lake with two sailboats and a motorboat. There are people on the hotel grounds. The rest of the painting is a detailed floor plan of the main floor of the hotel with its rooms, walls, corridors, doors, windows, interior stairs, and decorative floor coverings. The painting also shows the plans for the grounds around the hotel with a circular driveway in front and the patio, terraces, steps, and boat docks with boats in back along with landscaping. On the lower left side is a floor plan of the upper floors and there is a cross section side view of the hotel at the bottom. In the lower right corner, there are two Alabama Polytechnic Institute School of Architecture stamps, a red star, and a handwritten inscription "2nd Medal." The painting is signed "K.R. Giddens." The painting is in fair condition with a couple of tears but no missing pieces and is encapsulated. |
