description This image is a pencil conceptual drawing for a United Service Organizations (USO) lobby done by Hubert Beason sometime between 1917 and 1942. The USO exists to bring recreational and morale services to U.S. Armed Forces personnel and has nearly 120 centers around the world. The drawing shows the design for a lobby for one such center and consists of a series of views of the lobby linked partially by two solid lines. The view at the top of the drawing shows the lobby from one side with a door, a soldier standing at a counter, a window, and a plant. The next view at the bottom right following the lines shows the interior side view of the counter along one wall. The next view in the middle is a top down view of the entire lobby showing a wrap-around sectional couch stretching from the left wall around the corner to the next wall, the plant, a floor path with a USO logo between two doors and the counter along the right wall. The last view on the left is an interior side view of the wall opposite the counter with the couch, plant, and window. In the lower left corner is the artist's information: "Hubert Beason, A.R. 120." There are two stickers along the lower right edge which read: "School of Architecture Architectural Renderings, RG 457, Original number 40, 'A U.S.O. lobby,' Hubert Beason" and "40." In the lower right corner, there is a Alabama Polytechnic Institute School of Architecture stamp with the handwritten inscription "A" in red ink, the words "Exercise four" and a red number 2. The drawing is in good condition and is encapsulated.
