Description
Summary:This image is a watercolor conceptual painting of a Spanish patio/courtyard done by Franklin Woodruff sometime between 1917 and 1942. The upper half of the painting shows the courtyard building with its doors, decorative glass windows, porch with columns and arches, balcony and decorative iron hand railings and grilles over the windows, moldings, and tiled roof. There are lamps hanging from the porch, a blanket draped over the balcony railing, a fountain, vases, flowers, and trees. There is a woman on the balcony and a man standing in front of the porch. The lower half of the painting shows an aerial view of the courtyard and its decorative titles. The painting and aerial view are placed within framing art that includes close-ups of the glass windows, ironwork, columns, moldings, wood carvings, and tiles along with a tambourine, a candlestick with a candle, and a vase. In the lower right corner is an artist's information block but part of it is torn away and the rest is too faint to read except for the artist's name. Above the block is an Alabama Polytechnic Institute School of Architecture stamp with the handwritten inscription "2nd Medal" in red. The painting is in fair condition except for the large pieces missing from the edges and is encapsulated.
