Summary:This image is a watercolor conceptual painting of a Pompeiian courtyard done by Rutford sometime between 1917 and 1942. The upper third of the painting shows a one story side of the courtyard with its doorway, columns, moldings, windows, curtains, decorated walls and tiled roof with trees, shrubs, a statue, a brazier, a bench, and two small fences with flower pots. The middle of the painting shows a two story side of the courtyard with its doorway, columns, moldings, balcony, hand railing, windows, curtains, decorated walls and tiled roof with two trees. There is a man on the balcony. The lower third of the painting shows a landscape plan for the courtyard. The painting is set in framing art of two decorative poles and a Roman coin and contains architectural scales. In the lower right corner are the artist's signature, the handwritten inscription "2nd Medal" in red, and a silver star. The painting is in fair condition and is encapsulated.
