This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn, a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms, 1st edition, 1981, depicting the history of the city and the University. From page 142-143: Band-led celebrants at Toomer's Corner savored Auburn's 6-0 victory over Michigan State in the 1938 Orange Bowl football game. Auburn held the Spartans to two first downs and sixty-five yards total offense. Guard Ralph "Happy" Sivell, tackle Bo Russell, and linebacker Boots Antley led the defense. Ralph O'Gwynne scored the touchdown. Note the space between the Main Gate and Broun Hall, where Biggin Hall later was built. From 3rd edition, 2013, page 167: The toilet-paper tradition apparently had not yet arrived, though a tree was available. Photo source: Auburn University Photographic Services. |
