Summary: | This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn, a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms, 1st edition, 1981, depicting the history of the city and the University. From page 155: Benson's Drug Store, a few doors north of the Auburn Grille, remained open late on Friday and Saturday nights to catch the hungry crowd during intermission of college dances. Virtually all of the customers in this picture had hurried to Benson's during the break in a 1940 mid-term dance. Note the metal shakers on the table. The milk shakes they contained cost a dime. Sandwiches, unless you wanted something fancy, were fifteen cents. The ham and cheese was twenty cents and the club a quarter. Photo source: Auburn University Archives. |
