Description
Summary:This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn, a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms, 3rd edition, 2013, depicting the history of the city and the University. From page 189: Most of those pictured here were API students waiting at the ever-familiar depot for a train, this time to take them to Atlanta and ROTC summer camp at Fort McPherson in 1942 or 1943. A keen eye or magnifying glass can pick out All-American halfback Monk Gafford, standing at the curb facing the camera and wearing a dark letter sweater with an "A" on it.
