Description
Summary:This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn, a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms, 3rd edition, 2013, depicting the history of the city and the University. From page 59: John W. Heisman backed legalizing the forward pass, invented the "Heisman Shift," originated the hidden-ball play and the modern center snap, introduced pulling guards, coached winning teams, and became the man for whom the Heisman Memorial Trophy was named. As Auburn's coach in 1895-1899, he won twelve games, lost four, and tied two. In 1971, Tiger quarterback Pat Sullivan became the first player from an Alabama school to win the Heisman Trophy, top individual award in college football. Auburn tailback Bo Jackson became the state's second Heisman winner in 1985, and quarterback Cam Newton won Auburn's third Heisman in 2010. Photo source: Auburn University Archives.
