This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn, a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms, 3rd edition, 2013, depicting the history of the city and the university. From page 399: Coach Cliff Ellis cut down the net in 1999 after Auburn clinched only its second regular-season Southeastern Conference basketball championship. The Tigers beat Vanderbilt 81-63 to sew up the title, a stepping stone toward two victories in the NCAA tournament. ... The win gave Auburn a perfect 15-0 record at home and a wild celebration of the SEC Championship followed with fans storming the court, streamers flying and the Tigers cutting down the nets. ... In 2004, Auburn was shut out of post-season play for the second time in three years. AU President Ed Richardson fired Ellis. Richardson said he was "aware of the many accomplishments of coach Ellis in his tenure here." But he concluded, "It is simply time for a change."
