From page 318: Pat Dye held his final news conference as Auburn's football coach as Auburn's football coach on November 26, 1992, at Legion Field after Alabama beat the Tigers 17-0. Flanked by his players, he called his wife Sue, next to Dye at microphones, and his children, front, left to right, Missy, Pat, Jr., and Wanda, to his side. Players, back row, are Mickey Sutton, Jason Davis, and James Willis .... During the twelve seasons ending that day, Dye's Auburn teams won four SEC championships, went to nine bowl games, and compiled a record of 99-38-4. Dye's resignation had been announced the previous night, coming more than a year after former player Eric Ramsey accused assistant coaches and boosters of improperly giving him money, gifts, and favors. ... Dye had maintained for more than a year that he had no knowledge of NCAA rules violations committed by members of his staff or boosters. But three weeks before his resignation, the NCAA alleged in an official letter of inquiry that Dye knew of violations and failed to report them. ... On August 18, 1993, almost nine months after Dye resigned, the NCAA placed Auburn on probation for violations that surfaced during the Eric Ramsey case inquiry: No bowl games for two seasons; no televison appearances for one; loss of two football scholarships a year for three years.
