Description
Summary:This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn, a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms, 3rd edition, 2013, depicting the history of the city and the university. From page 305: A way of life for Auburn University students: waiting in line each September for football season tickets. The bronze War Eagle looks down on students in front of Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum. ... The eagle, almost twice the size of a real golden eagle, was dedicated December 2, 1989, the day of the first Auburn-Alabama game at Jordan-Hare Stadium. ... Engraved at the base: "War Eagle, fly down the field, ever to conquer, never to yield. War Eagle, fearless and true, fight on, you orange and blue ..." ... In 2011, the sculpted eagle was removed in making room for a new recreation and wellness center. Photo source: Auburn University Archives.
