Description
Summary:This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn, a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms, 3rd edition, 2013, depicting the history of the city and the university. From page 272: Dr. Dorothy DiOrio, who had climbed the Matterhorn, played the violin in orchestras on two continents, and skin-dived in Sardinia, became Auburn's first female department head outside home economics in 1972. A specialist in French, German, Italian, and Lating, Dr. DiOrio served as Auburn's Castanoli Professor of Italic Languages. She headed the Foreign Languages Department for seven years until choosing to return to full-time teaching in 1979. She retired in 1993. Photo source: Auburn Alumnews.
