Description
Summary:This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn, a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms, 3rd edition, 2013, depicting the history of the city and the university. From page 281: Nightspots come and go in Auburn, but the War Eagle Supper Club has been around since the 1950s, located 3.3 miles south of Toomer's Corner on Highway 29. After it became a private club in 1961, students flocked there for beer and pizza. Coeds weren't supposed to go there under pre-1970s University rules, "but gradually the guys would start bringing dates out," famous waitress Mildred Williams told the Auburn Alumnews writer Rosy Evans. ... By 1996, the club had substituted for pizza the music of live rock 'n' roll bands. ... In 1993, Chris Brandt (under eagle), a former Auburn High School basketball star and an ex-University starter, is shown checking IDs. Photo source: Glomerata, Auburn University Archives.
