Description
Summary:This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn, a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms, 1st edition, 1981, depicting the history of the city and the university. From page 103: William T. "Bill" Wood, a band member for four years, wrote the "API Alma Mater" in 1924 during his senior year. The band's first capes were bought with $1,100 earned from a series of amateur shows that the Montgomery student directed and staged, the Plainsman said after his death during the 1933 football season. In a ceremony in Wood's memory, the band played the Alma Mater at Langdon Hall, where the students had gathered for a play-by-play report of the Auburn-Tulane football game. Wood is shown in 1924 in front of the Sigma Nu house. Photo source: Glomerata, Auburn University Archives.
