From page 255: Millard Dawson served as the University's police chief from 1951 to 1981, and at retirement received the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award "in recognition of his friendliness, thoughfulness, sincerity, acts of kindness, and deep regard for others." In 1964, Harold Franklin had gotten lost on his way back to Magnolia Hall after becoming the first African American to register at Auburn. He later recalled that "the head of security, Mr. Dawson, who was a man I really respected, showed me how to get back." ...
