description This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn, a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms, 3rd edition, 2013, depicting the history of the city and the university. From page 210: In January 1951, newly appointed Athletic Director Jeff Beard contacted his friend Ralph Jordan, basketball coach and football line coach at Georgia. At Beard's insistence, Jordan wrote this one-sentence letter to the API selection committee: "I hereby apply for the head football coaching job at Auburn." Jordan was offered and turned down a three-year contract, but later signed a five-year contract, effective March 15, 1951. At the signing were, left to right, Jordan, President Ralph Draughon, Beard, and Business Manager W. T. Ingram. Jordan and his teams put Auburn back on the winning track.
