Summary:This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn, a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms, 3rd edition, 2013, depicting the history of the city and the university. From page 239: Businessmen Louie W. James (left) and G. H. "Monk" Wright ran against each other for mayor three times, with Wright winning twice and James once. They are shown in 1964 when Wright unseated uncumbent James. Despite their strong political rivalry, James said later that there was no personal antagonism between them. In fact, James credited Wright with introducing him to his pretty, talented wife-to-be. all told, Wright served nineteen years as mayor beginning his first term in 1944. Besides his elected term, James served sixteen months as Governor James E. Folsom's appointee when Auburn changed from commission to council government in 1955.
