Summary:This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn, a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms, 3rd edition, 2013, depicting the history of the city and the university. From page 193: Japan's surrender in the summer of 1945 brought a smile from the unidentified coed at left and reaction from Starr Prolsdorfer of Mobile and Marilyn Sheffield of Pine Hill, pictured in Toomer Drugstore. An atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, and another on Nagasaki three days later forced Japan's unconditional surrender, which followed Germany's months earlier.
