Description
Summary:This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn, a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms, 1st edition, 1981, depicting the history of the city and the university. From page 169: Clyde B. Ellis became an Auburn policeman-fireman in 1937 for eighty dollars a month. He became police chief a few years later and after retiring in the early 1960s said, "In all my time, I never had to pull my pistol out of its holster." He is remembered as the friendliest man around Toomer's Corner to all who passed his way. Photo source: Glomerata, Auburn University Archives.
