Description
Summary:This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn, a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms, 3rd edition, 2013, depicting the history of the city and the university. From page 242: "The Ugliest Man on Campus" contest was no contest at all in winter 1965. Shown this picture thirty years later, a close friend of the winning contestant said, "He's ugly all right, but I haven't a clue as to who that could be." Tucker Frederickson, the contest winner, was a consensus All-American football player a few months earlier. Kappa Alpha and Pi Beta Phi endorsed his candidacy as Ugliest. He easily outdistanced seven other candidates in the Alpha Phi Omega contest. A vote cost a penny, and A Phi O collected $3,123 for its campus projects.
