description This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn, a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms, 3rd edition, 2013, depicting the history of the city and the university. From page 362: Auburn's new President, Dr. William V. Muse, talks with students on the concourse in about 1992. In addition, he met Friday afternoons with students in the Presidential Student Leadership Program. Muse also helped begin Camp War Eagle for incoming freshmen and helped establish the state's first honors college at Auburn. When his final semester as president was cut short in 2001 by trustees who ordered him out of his office, some students marched, boycotted, and sat-in in protest. ... Auburn's president from 1965 to 1980, Dr. Harry M. Philpott, told the Huntsville Times in 2001 that Muse "has done a magnificent job under difficult circumstances ... I would have been gone long ago." Photo source: Glomerata, Auburn University Archives.
