Description
Summary:This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn, a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms, 1st edition, 1981, depicting the history of the city and the university. From page 67: A three-story brick annex, initially used for pharmacy instruction, was built in 1896-97 at the rear of the first Chemistry Building, later called the Music Building and in 1978 Hargis Hall. The annex also provided space for classes in chemistry, mechanical engineering, and drafting before it was removed in 1964. From 3rd edition, 2013, page 75: Over the years, Hargis Hall housed chemistry instruction, then architecture, followed by music, then the Graduate School, and other offices. The building was named for Estes Hargis, a 1917 Auburn graduate and a Birmingham surgeon. He and his wife endowed a professorship in English, and also helped pay for renovating Hargis Hall.
