description This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn, a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms, 3rd edition, 2013, depicting the history of the city and the university. From page 327: A fire apparently started by a torch being used to remove old paint caused $200,000 or more in damage to the Auburn University President's Home in May 1994. In addition to wooden portions of the building, the heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning systems on the second floor and considerable wiring had to be replaced. ... The five-bedroom 6,750-square-foot structure had by the time of the fire been home to [six] Auburn presidents and their families ... Built in 1938 at a cost of $38,412, it was the first building on campus financed with Public Works Administration funds. The home, which fronts on Mell Street, is located where the old Duggar Home stood until it burned in about 1937. Photo source: Auburn University Report.
