description This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn, a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms, 1st edition, 1981, depicting the history of the city and the university. From page 166: Allie Glenn, college treasurer for approximately forty-seven years, welcomed visits from former Auburn students, such as Marine Major General Franklin A. Hart. In her earlier years, many of the boys deposited money with her to cover their year's expenses. She kept individual accounts, cashing checks as they needed money and sending a monthly statement to each student's parents. Hart, later a lieutenant general, starred as a light but fighting halfback on two undefeated Auburn football teams before graduating in 1915. Hart also competed in track and soccer. He served in both World Wars I and II, earning the Navy Cross for heroism ... in 1944. Auburn bestowed an LL.D. degree on him in 1953. Photo source: Auburn University Archives.
