Description
Summary:This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn, a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms, 3rd edition, 2013, depicting the history of the city and the university. From page 261: Auburn National Bank opened a drive-up across Gay Street in 1979. One of the oldest business firms in the city, the Bank of Auburn opened its doors in 1907 on the northwest side of Toomer's Corner, with its founding directors including S. L. Toomer, C. A. Cary, Bennett Battle Ross, Thomas Bragg, Dr. Oliver M. Steadham, W. Pierce Zuber, and Thomas O. Wright. It became Auburn National Bank in 1964 when it moved to the northeast side of Gay Street at Magnolia Avenue. And AuburnBank--one word--became its name in 1995 when it again became a state bank. It had long been the only independent bank in the community. The drive-up facility was named The Super Six because it could accommodate six customers at a time. At groundbreaking were, left to right: Linda Fucci, Jerry Holley, Rowe Fesperman (front), unidentified, Lan Lipscomb, Clark Hudson, Spud Wright, H. R. Hubbard, Bobby Blake, B. F. Thomas, Sr., Martha Jones, E. L. Spencer, Bob Haley, Ed Lee Spencer, J. A. Kassler. All were employees or board members of the bank except Fesperman and Kassler, who represented the contractor.
