Summary: | This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn, a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms, 3rd edition, 2013, depicting the history of the city and the university. From page 332: James Echols began making his popular lemonades at Toomer Drugstore in 1958, and he was still making them in 1996. He squeezed about two hundred lemons a day during hot weather. Lemonades became more popular than the limeades that students had favored in the 1930s and 1940s. Echols is shown pouring syrup to sweeten a lemonade in 1975. His more famous customers included former Auburn President Harry Philpott, Football Coach Terry Bowden, and Athletics Director David Housel. Photo source: Auburn Alumnews. |
