Description
Summary:This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn, a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms, 1st edition, 1981, depicting the history of the city and the university. From page 37: Fire has been a threat to Auburn train stations. Lightning struck this one and burned it in about 1904. Forty years earlier, Federal troops had put the torch to the town's first station. Annie Terrell Basore, as a child, saw the second fire from her home across Mitcham Avenue. "We were sitting on a side porch, and a lightning stroke came down," she said. "It killed a mule and burned the depot." Photo source: Auburn University Archives.
