Description
Summary:This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn, a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms, 1st edition, 1981, depicting the history of the city and the university. From page 199: An Auburn landmark since being erected behind Toomer's Corner in 1908, this water tank was taken down in 1967 to make room for a parking lot. Nobody know how many students climbed its narrow ladder to paint football scores, "Wreck Tech," class numerals, and Greek letters on the tank. One of the daring lads had been Ralph Brown Draughon, later Auburn's tenth president. As a freshman in 1918-19, he had painted his class numerals on the tank, where only senior numerals were permitted. Many years later, he told of receiving "quite a hazing" from the seniors.
