This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn, a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms, 3rd edition, 2013, depicting the history of the city and the university. From page 205: A fire caused a commotion in a men's barracks in 1949 off West Samford Avenue. No one was injured, and damage was confined to a couple of mattresses and a small portion of the building. Perhaps miraculously, there were no serious fires in the barracks, classrooms, or apartments--all of wood and all tinder dry--that had been brought to Auburn as war surplus material in 1946-47. The Hill Dorms for women were built on this site during the 1060s. Photo source: Auburn University Photographic Services. |
