This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn, a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms, 3rd edition, 2013, depicting the history of the city and the university. From page 215: Spring dresses and hats blossomed like dogwoods after a Sunday morning service at the Methodist Church in 1952. This building had first become part of Auburn's religious heritage with the laying of its cornerstone in 1850. It was restructured near the turn of the century, and its stained-glass windows, flared roof lines, and arches became a landmark at Gay Street and Magnolia Avenue. To serve a growing congregation, a larger sanctuary was built nearby in the 1950s, and the old structure became the church's Fellowship Hall. Photo source: Auburn Alumnews. |
