Summary: | This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn, a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms, 1st edition, 1981, depicting the history of the city and the university. From page 188: Leading the celebration at Toomer's Corner after Auburn won the national football championship in 1957 was Hodge Freeman Drake, a landmark on North College Street and a familiar figure at Tiger football games. He dispensed "shoe shines and Auburn spirit from his Varsity Barbershop station for forty years," Graham McTeer wrote in an obituary for the fifty-nine-year-old "Doc" Hodge in the Lee County Bulletin in 1961.
