From page 195: For more than a century, the Lane House occupied this corner at Thach Avenue and College Street .... Former Confederate General James H. Lane, a professor of civil engineering and drawing, bought the house and its grounds in 1884 for $1,200. Lane's daughter, Kate Lane, deeded the property to the University in 1960 for $150,000. The house was to be torn down to make way for a new library, but the Woman's Club of Auburn bought it and had it moved to Sanders Street. ...
