This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn, a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms, 2nd edition, 1996, depicting the history of the city and the University. From page 67: Supplementing the standard drums as noisemakers at this uptown pep rally in about 1905-07 were at least one dishpan, a metal lid, water buckets, several washtubs, king-sized drumsticks, unidentified horns, and a variety of megaphones. Who knows what was in the barrel! Nearly everybody wore a hat or a cap. Peering from under a derby third from far right, back row, is football coach Mike Donahue. The people looked serious, but they undoubtedly livened up again once the picture had been taken. Photo source: Mrs. William Hardie, II. |
