description This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn, a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms, 1st edition, 1981, depicting the history of the city and the University. From page 93: An upperclassman clipped a freshman's hair to conform to the fashion for "rats" in 1916. One freshman that year, J.P. Fuller, III, retained a fringe of hair that imitated Dean George Petrie"s natural baldness. "My recollection is that the first time Fuller appeared this way in Dr. Petrie's history lecture, he was ordered to leave Langdon Hall and not return until his hair was cut correctly," said Alfonso Wright, also a freshman at that time.
