Description
Summary:These documents are lists of enslaved workers on the Tait plantations. The first list is dated 1832 and contains a list of field hands, grouped by "class", although what constitutes a "class" is not specified. The second list is dated 1834 and contains a similar list of field hands, also grouped, but lacking the "class" labels. The third list is dated 1834. Its first page is labeled "Mr. McCloud's Hands" and the second page is labeled "Little negroes under 10 years of age". The lists were probably written by James Asbury Tait. The Tait family were plantation owners in Wilcox County, Alabama; active in politics in Georgia, Alabama, and Texas.
