Description
Summary:Pamphlet: contains songs, poems, photographs, drawings, transcribed oral interviews, and recitations written January 23-28, 1995 by students of Oakman Elementary and Larry Long in Oakman, Alabama. The pamphlet also lists the names of the students and teachers of all the classes of Oakman Elementary. Sheet music is provided for some of the songs. In the oral histories, elders in the community related aspects of their childhood and life in Oakman and shared lessons and words of encouragement with the students. The students, with the help of Larry Long, wrote folk songs about these experiences. PACERS (Program for the Academic and Cultural Enhancement of Rural Schools) seeks to highlight the merit of rural schools and organizations.
