Description
Summary:This image is a detailed map of the state of Alabama in 1889 and is compiled from the official Records of the General Land Office of the Department of the Interior. The map shows railroads, rivers, capitols, cities, towns, and forts inside Alabama and in a small portion of the neighboring states. The railroads are labeled clearly. Grid lines are used to show townships. County divisions are highlighted by the use of bold red lines for borders. Cities' sizes are distinguished by the use of different font sizes. There is a map key on the right side to denote the symbols used for the location of the U.S. Land Offices and military reservations. The map is an original copy of a printed map and is encapsulated. The map is not in very condition because there are mending tapes along all the fold lines, rendering some information along those lines illegible.
