This image is a detailed map of the state of Alabama in 1899 taken from Rand, McNally & Co.'s New Business Atlas of Alabama. The map shows railroads, rivers, capitals, counties, cities, towns, and forts in Alabama and railroads, rivers, counties, and cities in the neighboring states of Florida, Georgia, and Mississippi. The railroads are labeled with red numbers. There is a key in red color located at the lower part of the map to show the numbers that represent the names of the railroad companies. There is an inset map of the "Environs of Birmingham" at the lower right corner. On the left margin is an index showing some Alabama chief cities with populations. Counties inside Alabama are highlighted by the use of red border lines. Grid lines are used to show townships. Relief is shown by hachure. The phrases "Copyright, 1895, Rand, McNally & Co." and "Copyright, 1898, Rand McNally & Co." are printed right above the bottom neat line. There are indexes on the back of the map indicating the counties, creeks, islands, mountains, rivers, and towns in Alabama. This map is an original copy of a printed map and is encapsulated. There are repair tapes along most of the fold lines. But the content of the map is still clear and legible. |
