The map shows the capitals, counties, cities, towns, rivers, and transportation routes such as railroads, roads, and canals both inside Alabama and to its neighboring states in detail. Grid lines are drawn to show townships. Under the title is an advertisement for the Alabama State Sentinel, stating the subscription rate and the editor's information. A phrase "Entered according to Act of Congress in the year of 1855, by J.H. Colton in the Clerks Office of the District Court for the Southern District of New York" is printed right above the bottom neat line. Near the bottom of the map, there is a label stating that "Maps of every description to accompanying Reports Prospectus etc. Drawn, engraved, printed, and colored at Coltons Geographical Establishment. No. 172 William St. New York." The map is photocopy of a printed map and is encapsulated. Except for some stains on the sides, the map is still in good condition.
