Description
Summary:This image is the John Melish Map of Alabama published in 1933. There are printed words "John Melish Map of Alabama, October 29, 1818, superimposed on a modern map showing lines formed by the last Indian Treaties and boundaries fixed before that date" on the lower right quarter of the map. It is a printed copy mounted on cardboard. The modern map used is produced by the United States Geological Survey, compiled by A.F. Hassan, Cartographic Engineer, in 1912, revised 1925. The Indian boundaries, roads and tribe names are hand drawn onto the modern map. A map key is printed at the right quarter. The map has "Lambert Conformal conic projection (based on standard parallels 33" and 45") North American datum" printed under the bottom neat line. The map is in good condition. The map is signed by William Letford of the [Alabama] Archives & History, 12/11/63.
