Description
Summary:This image is a map showing the roads and the topography of a portion of the City of Atlanta and its vicinity in Fulton and Dekalb Counties, Georgia. The map shows contour lines, roads, railroads, bridges, buildings, churches, schools, a University, a hospital, cemeteries, a golf course, power lines, rivers, lakes, swamps, and the boundary between Fulton and Dekalb Counties. The map portion that contains the map survey information is damaged and missing. However, based on the information from adjacent maps, the survey would have been done between 1928-1929. The map uses polyconic projection. The contour interval is five feet and the datum is mean sea level. Below the scale is a note: "Land Lots compiled." There is a map legend along the right side of the map. In the lower left corner, it gives information on the contributors as follows: "S.P. Floore, Topographic Engineer in charge. Topography by L.H. Caldwell." The missing area also renders the following information incomplete. But based on the information from adjacent maps and the remaining words visible on the map, the following information should be credible:"Control by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey and City of Atlanta Mapping Division". Along the bottom of the map from left to right are the information on the contributors, an image showing the approximate mean declination in 1928, the map scale, the name of the printing company "Williams & Heinz Co.", a map key, and a subtitle “Sheet 53”. The map is an original printed copy and is encapsulated. There is a sizable missing piece in the lower left corner that led to some map information being unavailable, as is mentioned above. There are also small missing pieces in the lower right corner and in the bottom margin near the center. Other than these, the map is still in good condition.
