description This image is a map showing the topography of the areas surrounding the city of Opelika, Alabama and a section Chattahoochee River that passes through that region. The map shows contour lines, mountains, rivers, lakes, swamps, railroads, roads, cities, towns, buildings, churches, schools, and boundaries with neighboring counties and states. The map is prepared by U.S. Geological Survey of the Department of Interior. The contributors are acknowledged in the lower left side of the map and are stated as follows: “H.M Wilson and Frank Sutton, Geographers in charge. Topography by W.L. Miller, Oscar Jones, R.W. Berry, J.H. Sinclair, J.W. Bagley, R.H. Reineck, and C.D.S. Clarkson. Under supervision of Van H. Manning. Control by Geo. T. Hawkins, E.L. McNair, and J.R. Ellis.” The survey was done in 1903-1907. The contour interval is 50 feet. Datum is mean sea level. The projection is polyconic projection and the official datum is the North American Datum of 1927. Along the bottom of the map from left to right are the map information, an image showing the Approximate Mean Declination 1907, the map scale, and a diagram of township. There is a subtitle “OPELIKA, ALA.-GA.” in the lower right corner with the index “N3230-W8500/30” printed below it. The map is an original print copy and is in good condition.
