Description
Summary:This image is a map showing the topography of the areas in the southeastern region of the city of Auburn in Lee County, Alabama. The map shows contour lines, lakes, rivers, mountains, roads, railroads, cities, churches, cemeteries, schools, houses, buildings, fences, fields, parks, an airport, a radio tower, a quarry, and boundaries. The map is mapped, edited, and published by U.S. Geological Survey, with control by USGS and NOS/NOAA. Topography is done by photogrammetric methods from aerial photographs taken in 1969 and field checked in 1971. Other detailed information on the map is stated in the lower right corner and reads as follows: “Polyconic projection. 10,000-foot grid ticks based on Alabama coordinate system, east zone. 10,000-meter Universal Transverse Mercator grid ticks, zone 16, shown in blue. 1927 North American Datum ... Red tint indicates area in which only landmark buildings are shown. Fine red dashed lines indicate selected fence and field lines where generally visible on aerial photographs. This information is unchecked. There may be private holdings within the boundaries of the National or State reservations shown on this map”. The map is edited and photorevised in 1983. Woodland and revisions shown in purple are compiled from aerial photographs taken in 1983 and other sources. However the information is not field checked. Purple tint indicates extension of urban areas. Along the bottom of the map from left to right are the map information, an image showing the UTM Grid and 1983 Magnetic North Declination, the map scale, a map locator showing the location of the quadrangle in Alabama and a legend. The map is indexed by the U.S. Army Map Service as “DMA 3949 III SW-Series V844”. The map is an original printed copy and is in good condition.
