Description
Summary:This image is a map showing the topography of the areas surrounding the city of Anniston in Calhoun County, Alabama, and neighboring counties. The map shows contour lines, roads, railroads, lakes, rivers, creeks, mountains, cities, towns, churches, bridges, ferry docks, and boundaries with neighboring counties. The map is prepared and engraved by U.S. Geological Survey with George Otis Smith as the Director. The contributors are acknowledged at the lower left side of the maps and are stated as follows: “H.M. Wilson, Geographer in charger. Triangulation by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey. Topography by A.M. Walker, W. Cavel Hall, and W. M. Morrill.” There is a small inset map showing the division of labor among the three topographers. The survey was done in 1897-98 and the map was reprinted in 1910. The contour interval is 50 feet and the datum mean is sea level. The map is an original printed copy and is laminated. The map is in good condition.
