Summary:This image is a soil survey map of Baldwin County, Alabama in 1909. The map shows the distribution of soil types by colors and symbols. Other features that are shown on the map include cities, towns, roads, railroads, rivers, and creeks. There are legends on the soil types in the lower left margin and the right margin. Soil profiles (3 feet deep) are shown on the left margin. In the bottom left margin, there is a statement mentioning that the soil survey is done by W.E. Tharp, H, Jennings, and C.S. Waldrop of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and W.L. Lett and P.H. Avary of the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries in 1909. Names of the persons in charge of different offices are mentioned on the map and are listed as follows: "Milton Whitney, Chief of U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, Bureau of Soils, B.B. Comer, Governor of the State of Alabama, J.A. Wilkinson, Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries." The map is printed by "A. Hoen & Co. Lith of Baltimore, Maryland." It is an original printed copy and is encapsulated. Except for some minor wear around the edges and folding lines, the map is in good condition.
