There are legends on the soil types in the lower left margin and the right margin. Soil profiles (3 feet deep) are shown on the left margin. In the bottom left margin, there is a statement mentioning that the soil survey is done by Lewis A. Hurst of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and C.S. Waldrop of the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries in 1908. The base map is done in cooperation with the U.S. Geological Survey. Names of the persons in charge of different offices are mentioned on the map and are listed as follows: "Milton Whitney, Chief of U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, Bureau of Soils, B.B. Comer, Governor of the State of Alabama, J.A. Wilkinson, Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries." The map is printed by "A. Hoen & Co. Lith of Baltimore, Maryland." It is an original printed copy and is encapsulated. Except for some minor wear around the edges and folding lines, the map is in good condition. |
