Description
Summary:This image is a map which shows the old federal highway system from Fort Decatur to Pole Cat Springs in Macon County, Alabama. This map is sheet 1 of the 3 maps that shows this section of the old federal road. A phrase stating "Match line to Tuckabatchee Sheet" suggests that Sheet 8b is a continuation of this map on the left. "Hale, 1949" is handwritten in the lower right corner. The map shows federal and stagecoach roads, railroads, forts, and rivers. Tallapoosa River, which is the border between Macon County and Elmore County, is clearly labeled. The map also shows a section of the present day railroad system. There is a compass rose in the lower left of the map, showing the orientation of north. There is an "Auburn University Libraries, Auburn, Alabama, Map Collection" property stamp dated July 16, 1990 in the lower right. In each corner, there is a handwritten "8A" in red. This is a photocopy of a hand drawn blueprint and is not encapsulated. The map is in fair condition with some blue stains on the creases.
