Description
Summary:This image is a map of the state of Alabama in 1938 showing the economic conditions reflected by the development of railroads during that period of time. The railroads are labeled with numbers. An index in red color is provided at the bottom part of the map to show which company each number represents. The map also shows capitals, counties, cities, towns, forts, and rivers. Grid lines are used to show townships. Hachure is used to show relief. Railroads, cities, towns, rivers, and relief in a small portion of the neighboring states of Georgia, Mississippi, and Florida are also shown on the map. An inset map of the city of Birmingham and its vicinity is placed in the lower right corner. The map is copyrighted by Rand McNally & Company and is made in the U.S.A. An index on Alabama principal cities with population information provided by the U.S. Census Department is placed horizontally on the top part of the map. The map is an original copy of a printed map. It is encapsulated and in good condition.
